Skip Rohde"Baghdad Sketchbook"

"I came to Baghdad in the summer of 2008 to work first for the State Department and later for the Corps of Engineers. I sketched as often as I could. Everyday experiences there are different than in the United States. The things I was called to draw and paint reflected my every-day reality: MRAPs, T-walls, soldiers, dust storms, and more.

These works are small-scale sketches in a variety of media. I used pencil on paper, watercolor, and even oil on small pads of canvas. They are observations, really: visual notes and descriptions of things I encountered."
