This painting, Strange Fruit, was created for the world premier performance of "Strange Fruit" by the Long Leaf Opera Company in Chapel Hill, North Carolina, in June, 2007. This opera was based on the book by Lillian Smith. The story told of the love affair between a young black woman and a young white man in south Georgia in the early 1920's. Their relationship in a racially divided town led to suffering and death, but also resulted in a mixed-race baby. This baby was the only sign of hope in the story and was therefore the subject of this painting.

The Renaissance Asheville Hotel requested a "signature image" to be used in advertising and promotional programs. The image needed to celebrate Asheville's unique character and the Hotel's place within the community. This watercolor painting resulted after close collaboration with Hotel managers.

Portraits can be created for individuals or corporate clients. These works bring out the character of the individual, beyond just the likeness. This individual, for example, has been a musician and teacher his whole life. Portraits such as this will be family heirlooms for a century or more.
